LO2 Task News

LO2 Task News

All news programmes have codes and conventions. The news programmes always have a smartly dressed person that is presenting the certain headlines. The news programmes also have voice-overs when they are showing different parts or scenes of a certain story. They are formally dressed and always have eye contact with the camera when talking about the headlines. The news programmes also have the presenters sitting behind a table. This use of the table allows the presenter to look formal as they are sitting down and they can place all of their papers on the table. The news programmes also have field reporters. Field reporters are reporters that are situated in the actual place of the news story. When the field reporter is finished with their detailed story they normally say 'now, back to the studio', this shows that the news office and place of action have connections to make it more realistic.

My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding & News programme:

This factual programme is categorised as a "fly on the wall" style factual programme. This is because the way that it is filmed is by having a person film the daily lives of these gypsies at the time of marriage, and when they do actually film the programme the people that are in the programme just act as their normal selves without thinking too much about the camera. One of the programmes had a section in it which was a group of young girls were all at a party, and normally you would think that the girls are going to be well behaved and act elegantly, but the girls in this case act as if the camera is not there and just do what they want.

The difference between these two factual programming are that the news programmes are more formal in first cases as they are shows that are being watched by a lot of people and the information that they give to the audience is of important matters, which require it to be said with good language. One similarity between the two programmes is that they have the ability to be biased without actually being biased themselves. The news programme must be impartial and neutral so they don’t lead their audience in following a certain side of a story. However, they would be able to use interviews with people to get their own views, and they would normally use people that are going to have one-sided arguments so that the news can still portray the different sides of the issue, while still being neutral. My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding also uses interviews to show bias and unbiased views similar to news programmes, as they would choose the actual interviewees before actually starting the programme.

Some differences between the two factual programming are that the news programme reporters would usually be seated in studio with very smart clothes and would talk very formally as they are addressing a mass audience, but the other factual programming would not need a studio because the place where they live is their studio, because it is a fly on the wall style factual programming and will usually be based in the actual house of the people involved in the programme. News programme reporters are also normally seated behind tables and would also have field reporters in the actual location of the issue, but the other programme would not need any of this because they are filming the footage at the actual location through out the whole programme.
