LO4 Edit screenshots
LO4 Edit screen shots
When editing our documentary we went through various phases of cutting clips, deciding which clips we should use, where each clip should go and what times the clips should be matched on action. These are some print screens of how we edited our documentary and the different steps that we made during the editing.
This is a print screen of our group editing the focus group that we had filmed at an earlier date. When we filmed the focus group we filmed it in one shot. This meant that we had to cut the focus group at different times to allow for other clips like interviews and montages to fit in with the documentary and have a continuing flow.
As you can see in the image above that the same clip, of the focus group, has been cut and placed into the documentary. This was done because some parts of the focus group were not as important so they had to be cut out. We all took turns to decide on which parts of the clip the most important dialogues were and then we all contributed to trying to edit using continuity editing techniques to improve the flow of the cut focus group film.
This is another image of how we edited the different clips in our documentary. This is the clip of the interview that we conducted with our gaming expert. We had to edit this clip to do things like add titles to make it possible for the viewers to be aware of whom the expert is. Similar to the focus group we also had to cut some parts of the interview out and use the most important parts to make the documentary more relevant to our subject.
As you can see in the image above that we had to add a screen title to the clip to show the experts name and what kind of an expert the person is. We each decided that we would take different roles in the editing process like one person in the group would import all the different clips that were needed to create the documentary, another person would cut all the videos and only leave the important parts of the clips, another person would create all the titles and subtitles and the final person would be responsible for matching all the clips together and ensuring continuity. This allowed the group to edit the film professionally and efficiently as we all knew exactly we were supposed to do.
This is an image of the documentary after there were some improvements that were suggested to us by certain colleagues watched the start of the documentary. The improvement was that we should have a montage of images for the start of the documentary to give viewers a brief overview as to what the documentary will contain. To do this we had to find images that were suitable for our documentary and then import them into the editing software. We then also added a few video clips from violent movies that would also be used in the montage that would be a part of the exposition and opening scene.
As it is possible to see in the image above that we imported many pictures and movie scenes that were relevant to our documentary topic. For the different images that we had to use we all contributed to the choosing of certain images that we would use in the exposition for our montage. We then also decided on the order of the images to allow for the satisfaction of all the participants of the group. Along with the images we also had a part in choosing the different movie scenes that would be used in the exposition and montage.
Through out the process of editing we all made sure that all the participants of the group were satisfied and were giving there own opinions to the different things that were being edited in the documentary. This shows that we all contributed to the editing of our documentary.

Continuity Editing:
When editing different clips for a certain viewing there are different kinds of editing that could take place. One of these is continuity editing. This is when clips/scenes are edited to make the film have a good flow and make it seem more professional.
Cutting/Matching on action:
There are also other techniques like cutting on action or matching on action. This is when the editor combines two similar clips that need to be combined, to make it seem like it is one shot. This allows for scenes to be shot after long periods, but still allowing the clips to be of one shot and look more professional.
Shot reverse shot:
The other technique is using shot reverse shot. This is when a director might film a shot, like an interview, by showing the perspective of one person. Like showing the point of views of two different characters that are in a dialogue. This gives the effect that the character is speaking to the viewer when in reality they are not. This immerses the viewers more, which is helpful, as it will allow are documentaries interviews to be more realistic and interactive.
180-degree shot:
Another technique is 180 degree shooting. This is when the camera is placed in a position that allows both characters that are opposite each other, in conversation to be seen. This is a good technique as it allows for the features of the characters to be seen more clearly, which will engage the audience greater.
Cross cutting:
Cut-away & Cut-in:
Overview:
The editing techniques that have been stated above can be used in the editing of our documentary to make it appear more professional. Techniques like these can be used to increase the effect of the interviews that are in the documentary. They can also be used to improve the flow of the documentary to make it feel like it has all been taken in one shot. This will be helpful as our documentary is about the effects of violent movies and games on life. These techniques can be used for things like the narration of a topic, like showing emotions on a characters face, adding intensity to a certain topic and other features.

Cross cutting is also another editing technique that can be used while editing a film. This is a technique that cuts back and forth from two different scenes. This technique could be used to show a narrator talking about a certain topic with his own gestures, but then cutting to an example of the narration at certain intervals.
Cut away and cut in shots can also be used in editing. This is when during a film the main scene is cutaway from or cut into. This technique can be used to show the detail on a certain product in a film, cut in, or to show how a certain scene is being shot, cut away.

LO4 Sounds and music
LO4 Sounds and music
Music:
Battle Finale (Iron man 3 - Bryan Tyler):
Our initial idea consisted of the track that was released in one of the iron man movie that was recently released. However, after getting feedback from one of the teachers it was suggested to us that we should try and use something at the start of the documentary that would be familiar to gamers, so they will be instantly hooked to the exposition.
Back to the future Retro game style:
We also had the idea that we could use this later on in the documentary to go along with some of the scenes that we filmed of people playing violent games.
Sonic the Hedgehog-Green Hill Zone Theme:
In the end, after all the suggestions we used this soundtrack for the opening of our documentary. we used this because it was a classic game that we assumed all gamers have played before. This was a good choice because it made the exposition familiar to our target audience.
Sound:
Quentin Tarantino - Interview on violence:
For the montage of movie scenes that we used, we also added a background voice-over that we found from the Internet. The voice-over consisted of a person that was talking about how his movie contains violence and how violence in these days is something that is watched regularly. This voice-over is relevant to the movie scenes because the scenes contain violence, which matches the voice-over.

LO3 Shooting schedule and shot lists
LO3 Shooting schedule and shot lists
This is a prezi document that shows the different camera shots and angles that could possibly be used in the production of our documentary.
Some of the shots that we will use in the production of our documentary are over the shoulder shots. This shot will be used for our interview. This camera shot gives a point of view feeling of the camera, which makes the audience more involved and more immersed in the interview. Another camera shot that we will use is the pan shot. This will be used to show a large environment and show the different things that are going on in the background.
1/03/13
This day we started our filming for our documentary. We filmed a focus group on this day so our shot list included of a long shot of all the people Involved and close ups of the people while they were talking. For this session we used a single camera technique, where we kept the camera in a still position and filmed a group of people answering and discussing the questions we asked them.
8/03/13
This day we filmed some more footage for our documentary. This day we filmed a person playing games while also asking people questions. This needed us to zoom into the person playing the game so we needed to do a close up of the game and then a mid shot of the person playing the game and also a over the shoulder shot to show the game and the person playing it at the same time.
15/03/13
We interviewed some people on this day. This then required us to use a mid shot for the interview while also using close ups to show the interviewees face while answering a question.
